A moderate walk with a wide range of different landscapes in a small area.
This family appears to have taken up residence in the car park in Grassington |
Main Street, Grassington |
The Devonshire, Grassington. Channel 5 had been filming All Creatures Great And Small here earlier in the week, hence the Drovers Arms sign. |
Ashfield, Grassington |
Garrs End Lane, Grassington |
Beyond the end of Chapel Street, the road turns into this walled track |
This was apparently the site of a medieval village |
Plenty of dandelions around here |
Cove Scar |
West Barn |
Looking back to Grassington |
I half expected to see goats in these trees or a pride of lions sheltering under them |
I presume the hill in the distance is Great Whernside |
The lone tree is another signature feature of the Dales |
There are quite a few very dead looking trees around here, presumably ash trees that have succumbed to ash die-back. |
Entering Grass Wood |
This robin showed us the way for a short distance, then got bored and flew off |
Primrose - No shortage of these in the wood |
A fair amount of the wood appeared to be closely planted coppiced hazel, although there were a lot of silver birches too |
Looking up Wharfedale, you can see Kilnsey Crag on the left with Kettlewell in the distance |
Chapel House Farm |
The River Wharfe |
Common Dog Violets |
Approaching Ghaistrill's Strid |
