6 Mile Circular Walk - Oxenhope | Nab Hill | Leeming

Distance: 6 miles

Ascent: 1100 ft

Walking: Andrew

Weather: Overcast with sunny spells.

OS Map: OL21 - South Pennines

Starting point: Station Road, Oxenhope.

Photography: Andrew using Nikon D750 / Nikon 24-70 mm f2.8

Basically, a very similar walk to one I did in May - straight uphill from Oxenhope with a couple of steep bits, to some of the best views in Yorkshire. We can see the cairns at the top from home so it's great to be able to go up there and look back the other way.

Station Road, Oxenhope

Lowertown Mill, Oxenhope

Back of the Hill, Oxenhope

Little Hill House Farm

Looking back from just above Little Hill House farm. Leeming Reservoir is in the distance

Wading through chest-high soft rush just below Hill House Edge Lane

Emerging onto Hill House Edge Lane

Looking back down Paul Clough towards Oxenhope from Hill House Edge Lane

Nab Hill

The conduit that runs down from Warley Moor Reservoir, heading for Leeshaw Reservoir

Warley Moor Reservoir

Ovenden Moor Wind Farm from Nab Hill

One of the Three Sisters stone cairns. There are actually four or five of them now (depending if you count the smaller ones)

Looking across Nab Hill to the other cairns

The Mist Stone, inscribed with a poem by the Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, is one of the 6 Stanza Stones on a 47 mile moorland walk from Marsden to Ilkley

This cairn serves as a welcome wind break and is a great place to take a seat and enjoy the amazing views over the Worth Valley and far beyond

The largest of the cairns

I'm not sure if this was built as a cairn or if it's just been there for a long time. It's a little way from the others

Nice to see the heather flowering in this view over Leeming and Oxenhope

The quarry spoil heaps have blended into the hill over the years, It reminded me of the 1st world war battlefields, particularly at Vimy Ridge.

Hambleton Lane

I presume this is a memorial to a cyclist, although I can't find anything online about i. It's a nice touch to have the bell for passers by to ring.

Heading down the Brontë Way towards Leeming Reservoir

Not quite what you expect to see up here but maybe it's just somewhere for the sheep to shelter

The path no longer follows the old walled track down the hill. There are some very boggy bits on here so I presume that's why it was diverted.

Cobling Farm, Sawood

A very old Oxenhope Gate, still doing what it was built for, but for how much longer?

Whinney Hill Foot

Harebells at Horkinstone Baptist Burial Ground

Leeming Reservoir and Waterside Mill (also known as Syke Mill), built in 1847 and now converted into apartments.

Oxenhope from just above Lower Heights Farm

Emerging from the undergrowth onto Station Road

Lowertown Mill
