Exploring Oakworth - Part 8 - Holden Park | Race Moor Lane | Newsholme | White Lane | Turnshaw Road | Irish Lane

Distance: 5 miles

Walking: Andrew

Weather: Sunny spells & snow showers, icy underfoot

Another very icy walk around Oakworth but, as always, there was plenty to see. I took a couple of paths I hadn't been on before although the steep one from Newsholme to Newsholme Dean was a bit too risky today so I'll have to save that for another day.

The Portico, all that remains of Sir Isaac Holden's mansion, Oakworth House, and the war memorial now stand at the entrance to Holden Park

This marble drinking fountain was paid for by public donations in memory of Sir Isaac Holden. It originally stood at the junction of Victoria Road and Station Road (in front of what is now the village Co-op) but was relocated to the park as it was deemed to be a hazard to traffic.

One of the many decorative man-made grottoes that were originally features of the gardens of Oakworth House.
