3.5 Mile Walk - Stanbury | Oldfield | Griffe Mill

The view across the valley to Oldfield from where I parked the car on Main Street, Stanbury

Distance: 3.5 miles

Ascent: 550 ft

Walking: Andrew

Weather: Sunny, windy. Very cold.

OS Map: OL21 - South Pennines

Starting point: Main Street, Stanbury

Photography: Andrew using Nikon D750 / Nikon 24-70 mm f2.8

I've been meaning to take a look at the ruined Griffe Mill, in the Worth Valley below Stanbury, since I spotted it on a Top Withens walk ages ago.

A bit of a false start. I headed into the village to find the footpath down to Griffe Mill. This is the old smithy

This snicket (or is it a gunnel) joins Main Street with a track that runs parallel to it behind the buildings

This row of cottages is tucked away on the track. According to the OS map, the path down to Griffe Mill should be just beyond them but I couldn't find it so decided to head out of the village and do the walk in the opposite direction

The old road down to Griffe Mill is barely visible now

Large round structure (I'm not sure what exactly) relating to Griffe Mill

Griffe Mill is pretty well hidden by the trees, even before the leaves appear

It seems that, despite it being a public footpath, the landowner is less than keen to allow access. In a way, I can understand it because the building is clearly unsafe.
